One of the most disputed inhabitants of the Appalachian region is the mountain lion. My father is an avid storyteller and among his tales was his own encounter with the elusive big cat. One wintery night he was awoken by a piercing scream, the sound of a woman dying, just outside his front door. He finally worked up the courage to open the door just in time to see a large feline creature dash back into the woods. This collage celebrates the phantom of the Appalachia, the cougar, panther, mountain lion, puma, and its many, many other names.
