Commission FAQs

  • Are you currently accepting commissions?

    We are currently booking new projects for June-July 2021 kick-off. Please complete the inquiry form at the bottom of the page or email 

  • Is there a minimum budget for commissions?

    Yes, the current minimum is $7500 for most commissions. However, works in our Made to Order collections are not subject to this minimum. Please submit an inquiry below for more specific pricing.

  • Can we discuss via telephone?

  • How do commissions work?

    Most commissions begin with a simple description of what you’re looking for submitted to us with our Art Request form. We then chat back and forth via phone, email, or text. Depending on the project scope, we may ask you to complete a questionnaire for a more detailed description of your commission request. Once we arrive at a general direction, size, and budget, we send you a commission summary and deposit request to initiate the commission.  All commissions require a 25% non-refundable deposit; some projects first require a $500 sketching fee which is then deducted from the project total upon acceptance. 

    The most common commission request is re-creation or a slight variation on a past, sold work.

  • Can you give me some examples of past commissions?

  • Do you send sketches?

    Sketches are sent depending on the scope of the project and the degree of customization. In most cases, after receipt of your deposit the first step is a sketch or Photoshop mock-up emailed for review

  • Do I get to offer feedback during the process?

    Absolutely. Feedback is encouraged throughout the process, but most importantly in the beginning when you receive the sketches and/or mock-up as well as commission overview.

  • When can I expect delivery of my commissioned artwork?

    The commission summary will include an estimated completion date. Commission times vary widely, from several weeks to several months, depending on the scope of the project and our schedule.  Our busiest times are in the spring and fall, from early March through mid-May and early September through mid-October, but work on commissions continues throughout the year. We typically advise to reach out 6-9 months prior to desired completion.

  • What’s your most common type of commission?

    Variations on current or past works.

  • Can I commission an artwork similar to a past work?

    Yes, this is a common commission request and something we’re happy to discuss. See Portfolio Suggestions.

  • Can I commission a site-specific artwork?

    Yes. These sort of commissions are best facilitated by sending us photos of the location, paint colors, fabric swatches, design boards, etc. and completing our questionnaire.
