Original paper collage on wood of longhorn in western landscape with oil derrick, mesa in backdrop, old barbed wire fence, and red vintage truck. Size approx. 3' x 6.5' horizontal.

  • Medium: vintage papers on wood
  • Size: 37.25" H x 66.25" W (framed)
  • Frame: hand-built salvaged metal with Museum Plexi
  • Hardware: ready to hang with D-ring hangers on back

The Process

Across the Golden Mesa is constructed from hand-cut papers on wood panel. All of the papers are vintage, dating from the late 1800s through 1950s/1960s, and selected because of their printed color. When creating these works, I glean through vintage magazines, old ticket stubs, comic books, posters, calendars, and old maps, just to name a few sources. Once I have a good stockpile of these materials, I cut and layer them to create the imagery. Only the painted is background; all other detail is hand-cut paper.

Understanding Limited Series

Each work in Dolan Geiman’s portfolio is unique and hand-crafted. Some are one-of-a-kind pieces while others are reiterations of a recurring theme, denoted as Limited Series throughout the site.

Each piece in a Limited Series is created with a inimitable collection of found materials so that no two are exactly alike. Iterations will vary slightly in color, pattern, typography and frame; each is crafted in a limited quantity and without a predetermined edition numbering.
