Description

Original paper collage on wood of vaquero/cowboy wearing a indigo bandana and emerald tiger pattern shirt. Contemporary western figurative artwork. All hand-cut paper. Finished in handmade salvaged tin frame and Museum Plexi.

  • Medium: vintage papers on wood
  • Size: 46.25" H x 38.25" W (framed)
  • Frame: finished in handmade salvaged tin frame with Museum Plexi
  • Hardware: ready to hang with wire on back

The Process

Vaquero (Tigers) is unique. Like all my collages, I began with an underlay of vintage papers affixed to a wood panel and whitewashed with acrylic paint. Details of the base underlay peek through the painted surface. (Look closely for musical notes in the background of this piece.) Usually, nothing else is painted and the rest of the piece is composed entirely of hand-cut, vintage papers. But, in Vaquero (Tigers), each of the paper tigers for the Vaquero’s “animal-print” shirt was individually hand-painted. I carefully crafted each and every tiger for this cowboy’s stylish ensemble.

Understanding Limited Series

Each work in Dolan Geiman’s portfolio is unique and hand-crafted. Some are one-of-a-kind pieces while others are reiterations of a recurring theme, denoted as Limited Series throughout the site.

Each piece in a Limited Series is created with a inimitable collection of found materials so that no two are exactly alike. Iterations will vary slightly in color, pattern, typography and frame; each is crafted in a limited quantity and without a predetermined edition numbering.
