This custom faux taxidermy moose sculpture was created for The Range Food & Drink Hall at Steamboat Resort in Steamboat Springs, Colorado. Part of the relaunch and redesign of Steamboat Square, located at the ski hill’s base area, Dolan Geiman was honored to create a show piece for the top floor restaurant and lounge.

The Range Food & Drink Hall was designed to resemble was a barn to reflect the strong ranching heritage of Steamboat Springs, with an emphasis on sustainability, repurposing and breathing new life into the old; since repurposing salvaged materials is at the heart of Dolan's creative process, this found object moose sculpture was a natural fit for the space.

This moose was fashioned by hand with tin snips, each layer joining in to create a life-like, cruelty-free celebration of this native Colorado species, using materials primarily gathered in the Centennial State. Look closely and you will see vintage lighting fixtures, a horse bit, barbed wire, repurposed ski bindings, saddle buckles, and more ephemera from mountain escapades; in the antlers, deconstructed saddles, cowboy boot leather, baseball gloves, and other assorted found textiles.
