Description

Original paper collage features a cowgirl wearing a classic vintage western shirt with serape like detail. The mesa background landscape with buffalo merges painting and ink transfer techniques. Companion cowboy also available.

  • Medium: vintage papers on wood
  • Size: 49.75" H x 36" W (framed)
  • Frame: hand-assembled grey-brown wood frame with silver fillet
  • Hardware: ready to hang with wire on back

The Process

The background was hand-painted with acrylic on wood panel. Thereafter, I do a rough sketch of the gal's silhouette which is then constructed from hand-cut vintage papers. The bison silhouette and her face use image transfer techniques learned during my printmaking days in collage and thereafter.

The Story

These pieces are about a connection to a missed memory--a fleeting dream that maybe wasn’t a dream. Did we really ride out of Durango with the sagebrush on our shins, the aspen in our hair, the bison wrangler holding steady to her lead line? Did we really crouch low in the crisp fall morning canyon, the smell of cigarette smoke and gunpowder on Grandad's hunting jacket? Did we really meet him at the saguaro lounge, the roadsmith selling butterflies in jars out of the back of a rusted Pontiac? Our stories are still there but the memory is fuzzy, faded, vintage.

Understanding Limited Series

Each work in Dolan Geiman’s portfolio is unique and hand-crafted. Some are one-of-a-kind pieces while others are reiterations of a recurring theme, denoted as Limited Series throughout the site.

Each piece in a Limited Series is created with a inimitable collection of found materials so that no two are exactly alike. Iterations will vary slightly in color, pattern, typography and frame; each is crafted in a limited quantity and without a predetermined edition numbering.
