Dimensional metal portrait of Vaquero/cowboy in indigo and wine tones. Hand-painted woodpecker pattern shirt and leather accents throughout, all fashioned from reclaimed metal and other found materials. Ready to hang with hardware attached.

Process

Process

My workshop is chock full of found treasures from adventures across the country. I select a palette of colors from many mixed materials and get to work, snipping and shaping and applying in careful layers until the perfect piece emerges.

The woodpeckers on this particular piece were done in the style of spraypaint stencil, a technique brought to the world by the infamous Shepard Fairy of Obey Giant fame. When I was in college a buddy of mine and I used to spray paint my car with stencils we got in the mail from Shepard Fairey himself. We then learned how to cut stencils ourselves and began creating our own artwork.

It love how this technique turned out on these woodpeckers: I feel like it captures the vintage mass-printed or offset-printed look found in a lot of silkscreened designs and flat advertisements from the 40's and 50's, which I enjoy very much.
