The idea of moving to a new locale was a seed I planted in my mind about five years ago. In time, the seed continued to grow and I was able to harvest the fruit from its branches that had formed fully in my mind. The move took place in June of this year, from Chicago to Colorado, and as I continue to settle into my new studio, I am awash in the up-swell of creative energy. My creative conscience has been slowly catching up, illumining my nights with vivid dreams of fantastic gardens bathed in forest-fire light and animals seeking safe havens in riparian niches. Sometimes I do awake to scrawl down bits of these dreams (see midnight sketch above) as they are quickly spirited away by the waves of consciousness. A month or so ago, I was able to capture the fleeting essence of a much larger picture in my mind: the white stag, the iconic statue standing alone in a sprawling garden, suddenly aware of man’s presence, turns, fleeing the pristine wilderness and marking the evolution of humankind.
