Process

Standing four feet high, this welded rainbow trout
found object sculpture takes the classic Dolan Geiman faux taxidermy, blows it up, and flips it on its… tail. Dolan spent weeks gathering the perfect
combination of metal materials and found objects to bring this trout to life for a residential commission client in Sun Valley, Idaho. Dolan crafted the armature from steel, then carefully wrapped and welded a plethora of disparate objects around the form: padlocks, steel grating, antique sabers, even garden hose tap handles make an appearance in this handmade mixed media work. The piece
sits sturdily on a welded base constructed from salvaged metal. It is the perfect complement to the mountain-modern-meets-rustic-prairie aesthetic the
client sought, bringing a little of the river to their beautiful cabin in the woods.
