Process

I often wonder how closely I am being watched in the forest, how close by a quiet creature friend might be. On so many of my Colorado hikes, I have seen traces of bear friends, yet for all of the footprints and scratch marks, my encounters with these beautiful creatures remain preciously scarce. I wanted to capture some of their mystery, some of the unknown of their worlds: this piece highlights the calm, the quiet, the unknown and the unpredictable hidden in a field trip where mama takes cubs out to show them their world. I used repurposed vintage papers to craft the nuance in their coats - a hidden word, a secret phrase, just behind the next branch, waiting to be discovered.
