Story
It was exactly what she wanted.
It's not easy being a self-made woman. The obstacles are always many and varied, usually a surprise, and rarely is there anyone willing to lend an ear when things get tough. They’re busy with their own obstacles, she had learned. It takes a certain kind of lady to stand tall in the face of the challenges of ranch life. But when she took on this land – barren, untended, not even close to ready for a herd – she knew what was in store for her. It was exactly what she wanted. Removing cacti, erecting fences, every so often planting sweet yellow roses as tribute to the strong women before her – a day’s work turned into a month’s, turned into years. While the work was hard and the sidelong glances from the men in town were unrelenting, she plowed forwards, eyes on the horizon towards the success she knew was on the other side of building this venture. Five hundred head of cattle later, and a sturdy reputation under her belt, she knew her place on this land was secured – and she’d hold on with everything she had.
