Story
... Arriving at the same time every day to catch up on neighborhood events.
Dolan jumps at any opportunity to marvel at – and celebrate via art – the many intricacies and miracles in the animal world. When longtime collectors requested a metal wall sculpture of two local avian celebrities – known throughout their Hawaiian community for arriving at the same time every day to “catch up on neighborhood events” – Dolan was elated to capture their likeness in salvaged metal and paint.
Using systems more advanced than iPhones or calendar reminders, these egrets know to return to the same yards and pools each day to check on the state of affairs, delighting their human neighbors with their quirky personalities and Swiss watch-like precision.
In an artistic nod to their time-tested methods of time management, Dolan approached this piece with as little modern technology as he could, rendering the unique pieces of repurposed metal into feathers and fronds with his favorite vintage tin snips, and hand-sketching the background elements in charcoal before painting in the vibrant colors and details.
