The Story

I am elated to unveil my newest sculpture crafted in the metal shop. This beauty is filled to the brim with meaningful materials and details. At the centerpiece is a Northern Flicker with a chest of hand-sewn vintage stamps and a wood frame I salvaged from an old fence on my great uncle's farm.

Now that we have the sentimental details out of the way, let's put the nerd in bird. Did you know flickers have different colored flight feathers depending on where they live in the U.S? While growing up in Virginia, I would spot one of these little fellas fluttering around with yellow feathers. As soon as I moved further west, I noticed the same bird but with red on its tail. I drew inspiration from the red-shafted flickers that can be observed from the Rockies in Colorado to the west coast but I do miss seeing those yellow hues from where I grew up on the east coast.
