Framed Works

"Growing up in the South, the phrase 'you clean up real nice' was a common one. For those of you in the dark, this phrase is usually applied to someone who, when in blue collar work mode, looks like, well, a blue collar worker, but who, when showered and shaved, has a more suitable appearance. I would like to borrow this kindly phrase for a moment and apply it to my framed works. These are pieces that have evolved out of the various reaches of my studio, whether they are collages of found papers or graphite sketches or gouache paintings on paper. These works are usually very raw in their beginnings and evolve over time to become quite complex. Once they are neatly registered with white mat, glass, and frame, they tend to take on an entirely new appearance, and become uniquely favored specimens in my artistic oeuvre."
